Macheras Georgios

Dr. George Macheras completed his Medical Degree at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. Afterwards he completed his Orthopaedic training at the NIMTS Hospital Athens.

Following these studies, he performed several Fellowships in Switzerland, Italy and Germany. He further improved his clinical and research skills in the United Kingdom at the Gt.George’s medical school  for 3 years( St. George’s rotation training scheme in Orthopaedics) (1989-1991), before completing a PhD at the University of Athens in 1990.

Since his return to Athens Greece, he practiced as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the 1^st IKA hospital (1998 -2008). Then he gained a Senior Consultant Orthopedic surgeon position at the KAT Hospital in Athens, in 2008, becoming the Head of the fourth Orthopedic Department and Director of Medical services of this hospital (2011-2019) and gained a vast experience in Arthroplasty surgery both hip and knee and in revision surgery. He has a vast experience in high CDH cases surgery and in revision hip and knee surgery (both septic and aseptic Cases). He ended his practice in KAT hospital end of 2021. Currently he is chief Orthopaedic surgeon at Henry Dunant Medical center and the director of the surgical sector of the same hospital. He also a Visiting Professor of Orthopaedics at University of Athens

Dr. Macheras has been founding member of the European Hip Society and has been elected President of the Society (2008-2010) organizing an EHS meeting in 2010, in Athens.  He is member of the International Hip Society. He has been President of the Hellenic Orthopaedic Association in 2014. He was member of the executive committee of EFORT and chair of EFORT FORA  for 10 years.   He takes part in many scientific committees nationally and internationally.

He has published 95 papers in international journals (Index Medicus) and 68 in Greek Journals. He has written 16 chapters in books, and he has 395 podium presentations in international congresses. He has run 20 international clinical trials. He is regularly traveling to middle East and to China lecturing and performing educational activities. He is member of the advisory board of AORecon for Europe and South Africa(ESA). He organizes annually  AORecon courses in Greece. He regularly participates as international chair or the internation faculty, in AORecon courses all around the world,promoting surgical techniques both for primary and revision total hip and total knee replacements.

He has serviced as manager of the 1^st IKA hospital (2000- 2001) for 2 years and as manager of KAT hospital for seven months (2015)

He has serviced, as chair, in many comities and health care programs for the National health system
