Ivan Jovanović, born on July 8, 1962, in Loznica, Serbia, is a Serbian professional football manager and former player, currently serving as the head coach of the Greek national soccer team.
Playing Career
Jovanović began his professional playing career with FK Rad in the Yugoslav First League from 1984 to 1989. He then transferred to the
Greek club Iraklis, where he played as a midfielder from 1989 until his retirement in 1999.
Managerial Career
- Early Career: Jovanović started his managerial journey in Greece, coaching teams such as Niki Volos, Iraklis, and Panachaiki between 2001
and 2006. - APOEL Nicosia: He achieved significant success with Cypriot club APOEL, leading them to four Cypriot First Division titles, one Cypriot
Cup, and four Super Cups. Notably, he guided APOEL to the quarter-finals of the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League, marking a historic run for the
club. - Al Nasr: Jovanović managed UAE’s Al Nasr, winning the GCC Champions League in 2014 and the UAE President’s Cup in the 2014–15
season. - Panathinaikos: In June 2021, he took charge of Greek club Panathinaikos, leading them to a Greek Cup victory in the 2021–22 season, ending the club’s eight-year trophy drought.
- Greece National Team: In August 2024, Jovanović was appointed as the head coach of the Greek national team. Under his leadership, Greece achieved a historic 2-1 victory over England at Wembley during the
2024–25 UEFA Nations League.
