Dr. Christos D. Papageorgiou, is a leading orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He earned his MD (1986) and PhD (1997) from the University of Ioannina. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Papageorgiou pursued a Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, under the mentorship of Dr. Freddie H. Fu and Dr. Savio L-Y Woo.In 1999, he returned to Greece to serve as a Consultant in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, and Shoulder Surgery at the University Hospital of Ioannina, where he was appointed Director in 2013. A pioneer in knee ligament biomechanics, he performed Greece’s first meniscus transplant (2005) and double-bundle ACL reconstruction (2000). He has over 50 PubMed-indexed publications with 4000+ citations. A former ESSKA board member, he has chaired international symposia and led the Balkan Society of Arthroscopy (2019-2022). He is also a founding member of the Greek Arthroscopy Society Knee Surgery and Sports Injuries “George Noulis.”
